ハウルの生まれたきっかけは....

以前、子どもたちと語るためにあちこちの学校を訪ねる旅をしていた時、一人の少年に「動く城の話を書いて」と言われたんです。それを聞いて、すごくいいアイデアだと思い、「その物語を書いたら読んでね。本の最初のページに必ずあなたの名前と『ありがとう』というメッセージを入れるわ」と約束しました。
しかしその少年の名前のメモをなくしてしまったので
仮の名前で、「スティーブンに捧ぐ」としています。


ここから「魔法使いハウルと火の悪魔」が生まれました。
